Ever stayed up until 11PM because you drank a cup of coffee at 7PM and you’re sitting here watching E350 Wagon reviews because you might want one in the future and they’re like, 302 HP V6 E350, price as tested $72,000. Here’s the challenge, what’s the least horsepower you can get today that’s on sale FOR THE MOST MONEY? Options count because I was just building an E-Wagon without caring how much it costs and just what would make MY DREAM WAGON realistically and it’s nearly $82k now.

Kinja'd!!!

That is a nice looking wagon though.

Onb the lower end of the cost spectrum, the Subaru XV CRosstrek...

MSRP: 22,445 (so $25k if you want fancy stuff like door handles and seatbelts)

HP: 128HP.
In a modern Subaru.

No idea. But I’m pretty sure the new 213 E-class wagon will only be available in the US with the bi-turbo V6, making a bit more power.

I just saw that a 1964 Peel P50 sold in 2013 for $120,750 at an RM Auction.

In 1964 it had 4.2 bhp.

That’s $28,750/bhp.

Which is 105.89 times more pricey per horsepower than your(really awesome looking)E-Wagon.

Volkswagen Multivan Business. They start at around $100k, that’ll get you the 110hp TDI. If you want the most powerful engine (204hp!) and AWD you have to pay another ~$25k on top of that.

I was typing this up and I was like. There’s gonna be a Porsche on this list. There has to be. So I googled the Boxster horsepower and started it at 295 HP for $50k (starting) and I was like NAH, Porsche can’t find $32k in accessories.

And I was right, they couldn’t. They found WAY MORE in accessories.

Ah, you got me with the uber expensive when I went for low power, moderately high price. However, I can beat that...

Benz Patent-Motorwagen: .75bhp

Worth: Priceless.

Where would we be without the first car?

Therefore, even if we round priceless down to 1 million dollars(which I’m most certain somebody would pay more than for an original one)the price/bhp would be:

$1,333,333.33/bhp

:)

Mind you the equivalent Mercedes V-Class tops out at €85k, top engine, AWD and all. Why are people buying VWs again?

I’m thinking (small) diesel in a luxury brand. You can option an F-450 Platinum up around 80k, but the 6.7 Power Stroke is good for 440hp (and 860lbs-ft!).

..and in a few years it’ll be on “Bring a Trailer” for $13,000. There’s really nothing like the exhilarating, thrill ride of a European Car “ Depreciation Curve ”. Disney should have an attraction built like it.

The cheapest i3 is 170hp for $42,400, or ~$250/hp. Your 304hp $72k Benz is a paltry $238/hp.

The smart fortwo BRABUS Tailor Made edition. It effectively gives a prospective smart owner as many factory customization options (practically infinite) as a Maybach, for a price that can EASILY reach $50k.

Oh, and since American regs suck, you have the choice of one engine on this side of the pond: 89bhp

it can work with another 212, if we are talking about remaining 2016 model year cars. An E250 Bluetec 4MATIC, with every option boxed check (and all the Designo trim) can probably be optioned up to about 75-78K or so. It has 195 hp (but 370 torques to move it along).
